During the 2025-2029 council term, I consider the following goals to be the most important in Espoo:

Adequate resourcing of basic education. Sufficiently small group sizes, enough teachers, special education for teachers, and school assistants, small (special) classes for those who need them. Promoting the well-being of students in various ways, both by the municipality itself and in cooperation with the welfare area (meaningful activities/hobbies, functional student welfare, school youth work and community instructors, grouping and educating students in empathy – strong prevention and intervention of bullying and violence).

Ensuring the quality of early childhood education. Some daycare centers clearly have more trained staff and better readiness to respond to children’s support needs than others. All daycare centers should have trained staff, and in some daycare centers, the number of staff should be even higher than in others. Early childhood education plays a larger role in preventing segregation than is often understood.

Increasing high school places. We need to lower the average grade limits. In an ideal situation, one could enter high school with an average grade of 7.0.

Protecting green areas and nearby nature. We need to be able to create a nature-friendly city where everyone has the opportunity to refresh themselves in nature.

Combating inequality in residential areas. This, and especially the segregation of schools and daycare centers, is in my opinion the biggest challenge for Espoo in the near future, and combating it should play a major role in the city’s strategy. It requires everything from resourcing schools to ensuring the vitality and comfort of neighborhoods, and functional social, employment, and integration services, as well as policies to combat (family) poverty.
